Pro-Life Activism

Pro-life activism is what the Pro-Life Action League is all about, so many of your questions about pro-life activism will be answered simply by browsing this website. Some of the most common specific questions about activism are answered below.

How can I get active in fighting abortion in my area?

For instructions on specific things you can do in your area—praying at abortion clinics, publicly protesting abortion, passing out leaflets and starting a pro-life club—see our Marching Orders page.

Please visit our Sidewalk Counseling Map to find activities in your area. This map has contact information for more than 150 active sidewalk counselors who regularly go to the clinics to pray and counsel.

If there is no one listed in your area, you may want to try visiting STOPP International's map of our prayer vigils at Planned Parenthood facilities

Another creative option is to call the closest abortion clinic to ask when they perform abortions, then show up during those hours to see whether there is anyone praying and counseling there. Note: Never go to an abortion clinic alone, even to pray. You always want a friendly witness in the event that there is a confrontation with the clinic staff about your peaceful presence there.

If you don't find anyone out there, you can start a sidewalk counseling or prayer ministry yourself. Our video No Greater Joy provides information on how you can get started as a counselor.

You may also wish to contact your Statewide Affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee or Respect Life Office of the local Catholic diocese to find out about pro-life activities and events in your area. (You do not have to be Catholic to call them or get involved with their efforts.)

How can a teen like me get involved fighting abortion?

An important part of being an effective pro-life witness is to learn as much as possible about abortion. We have compiled a student packet with numerous brochures on many aspects of the abortion issue.

Consider starting a pro-life club at your school or church. The Pro-Life Action League's youth outreach division, Generations for Life, offers a comprehensive Pro-Life Club Curriculum.

Not only will the Curriculum get you started with a pro-life club, but it is full of resources for spreading the pro-life message through club meetings, activism and outreach.

As a teen, you can also be a valued participant in other pro-life activities, such as prayer vigils, sidewalk counseling and public protest. Contact pro-life groups in your area for opportunities to help.

What companies support abortion? Can I join a boycott?

Most companies that support abortion do so by contributing to Planned Parenthood. These companies are often unaware that Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest abortion provider, so letters and customer boycotts can be effective in convincing them to stop this funding.

The most current and complete pro-life boycott list can be purchased from Life Decisions International.

A final note: be sure to thank companies when they stop funding Planned Parenthood, especially by resuming use of their products and services.
